Nicky Burman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Connecticut. She received her Masters in Social Work (MSW) from New York University with a mental health concentration. Nicky has provided individual and couples therapy and has facilitated groups in a variety of settings including an adolescent day treatment program, college counseling center, therapeutic support program, and most recently with families at the Yale Child Study Center.
Nicky continues to pursue advanced training and integrates research in neuroscience and psychology into her work. Her eclectic approach is strength-based, relational and insight oriented combining cognitive-behavioral therapy and other evidence based modalities. Nicky has received training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, substance abuse treatment, trauma, Circle of Security and attachment-based parenting and Infant/child mental health.
Nicky works with individuals across the life span. She specializes in assisting clients in addressing anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, PTSD, developmental trauma and family of origin issues, relationship issues, life transitions, grief/loss, chronic disease, work/life balance, parenting issues, anger and mood disregulation.
Nicky is a Licensed LENS Practitioner with successful completion of intensive neurofeedback training with the Center for the Brain as well as specialized LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) training. Nicky utilizes the LENS Neurofeedback System and Bioregulation Therapy in the treatment of conditions involving: cognition, mood, sleep, motor functioning, executive functioning, sensory processing, anxiety, impulsivity/reactivity, pain management, addictions/dependencies, and organic brain conditions (seizures, cerebral palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorders, headaches, TBI, concussions). Nicky is passionate about helping her clients resolve their symptoms, heal and flourish. She believes that Lens Neurofeedback provides a powerful tool for calming and "rewiring" the brain.
