Nicky Burman is a Connecticut Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from New York University and a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from Barnard College. Nicky has provided individual and couples therapy and has facilitated groups in a variety of settings including an adolescent day treatment program, college counseling center, therapeutic support program, and most recently with families at the Yale Child Study Center.

Nicky is a relational psychotherapist and specializes in helping adult clients heal from trauma, depression and anxiety. Academics, introverts, creatives, and adults recovering from childhood trauma comprise a majority of her integrative psychotherapy practice. Additional areas of specialization include relationship/interpersonal challenges, divorce counseling, recovery for adult children of alcoholics, ego work for individuals recovering from narcissistic abuse, professional identity development and life transitions due to job stress, loss and changes.

Nicky’s professional work is informed by psychodynamic, relational, and attachment theories. While these theories inform her work, Nicky’s warmth, humor, insight, and collaborative and compassionate style are at the core of what's helpful to her clients.

Continuing training in various modalities including Interpersonal Neurobiology, resilience and post-traumatic growth, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, substance use treatment, cognitive behavioral therapy, Circle of Security and attachment-based parenting and Infant/child mental health is ongoing.

Nicky is a Licensed LENS Practitioner with successful completion of intensive neurofeedback training with the Center for the Brain as well as specialized LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) training. Nicky utilizes the LENS Neurofeedback System and Bioregulation Therapy in the treatment of conditions involving: emotion regulation, cognition, mood, sleep, motor functioning, executive functioning, sensory processing, anxiety, impulsivity/reactivity, pain management, addictions/dependencies, and organic brain conditions (seizures, cerebral palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorders, migraines, traumatic brain injuries, and concussions). Nicky works with individuals across the life span and is passionate about helping her clients resolve their symptoms, heal and thrive.
